Boston-Metro: Bluebikes, the regional bike share system owned jointly by the municipalities of Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, and Somerville, will offer free Adventure Passes on Election Day – Tuesday, November 6th. With more than 250 stations, Bluebikes is a quick and convenient way to get to the polls. Adventure Passes offer unlimited access to two-hour trips in a 24-hour period, and individuals can obtain a free pass on Election Day by using the code BIKETOVOTE in the Bluebikes app or ride.bluebikes.com/biketovote.
Boston Elections Commissioner Dion Irish and Transportation Commissioner Gina N. Fiandaca stand with bikes in front of Boston City Hall, one of the many polling locations that are accessible by Bluebikes.
“Election departments across the country are encouraging voters to head to the polls on November 6th,” said Boston Transportation Commissioner Gina N. Fiandaca. “The City of Boston is proud to join our municipal partners in Brookline, Cambridge, and Somerville, our title sponsor Blue CrossBlue Shield of MA, and our bike share system operator Motivate, to make Bluebikes available for free on Election Day to our residents who want to get to the polls to vote.”
“Voters who ride to the polls with Bluebikes will be fulfilling a vital civic duty in a healthy, eco-friendly way,” said Kathy Klingler, chief marketing officer for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, the title sponsor of Bluebikes. “This initiative aligns perfectly with our mission to help Massachusetts residents lead healthier lives while also supporting civic engagement, and it provides a unique option for voters to make sure their voices are heard on Election Day.”
On November 6th, polling locations across Massachusetts will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Before heading to the polls, voters are encouraged to visit mass.gov/vote or call 800-462-VOTE (8683) to find their polling location, check their registration status, and get their sample ballot.
Through November 2nd, registered Massachusetts voters can vote early in their municipality. Ballots can be requested in person or by mail. Unlike absentee voting, residents don’t have to provide a reason for voting early. Information about early voting times and locations across the state can be found at massearlyvote.com or by calling 800-462-VOTE (8683).
Bluebikes’ new effort aims to support civic engagement by providing people with transportation to voting locations across the metro area. Leading up to Election Day, Bluebikes will also feature reminders to vote within the app. Bluebikes is proud to be a leader in this effort, along with other bike share systems nationwide, including Capital Bikeshare in Washington, DC, Citi Bike in New York, Divvy in Chicago, and Indego in Philadelphia.
The four municipal owners of Bluebikes have recently expanded the system by adding more stations and more bikes. More than 60 stations were added in 2018, and by the end of 2019, the municipalities will provide 3,000 bikes and 300 stations. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, title sponsor of Bluebikes, provided the financial support necessary for this expansion.
Bluebikes’ promo codes and free rides are offered in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations, subject to Motivate and Bluebikes’ terms and conditions, and are not intended to induce, nor are conditioned upon, the act of voting or voting for or against any particular candidate or measure.
